Sprockets can be classified into common sprockets, HK sprockets and other sprockets.
1. Common sprocket
Regular sprockets are ANSI sprockets which might be engaged with regular series roller chains. See P125 for dimensions.
You’ll find two styles of tooth profiles: U-tooth and S-tooth.
2. HK sprocket
HK sprockets might be engaged with HK series roller chains, and these for single strand chains are identical to typical sprockets. On the other hand, sprockets for numerous strand chains are diverse from standard sprockets in sprocket tooth profile.
three. Other sprockets
Other sprockets are built according for the following calculation formulas to suit respective specialty chains.
The sprockets applied for the following chains will be the same because the normal sprockets in tooth gap kind, but different in tooth thickness (sprocket tooth profile).
four. Calculation of sprocket dimensions
The dimensions of standard sprockets and other common sprockets are calculated as follows. At first, the diameters of sprockets are calculated from your following calculation formulas.

Calculation of pitch diameter, tip diameter and caliper diameter
The essential dimensions of the sprocket ideal for a chain pitch of one mm are respectively referred to as pitch diameter factor, tip diameter issue and caliper diameter issue. The respective elements for respective numbers of teeth are listed under. If these components are multiplied by chain pitch, the basic dimensions of the corresponding sprocket is often obtained.

Calculation formulas for tooth gap types
Since the most rational tooth gap types through which the stress angle alterations in response to the elongation of the smoothly rotated roller chain together with the lapse of support time, ANSI specify two types of tooth profiles: U-type and S-type. Usually, S-type tooth profiles are adopted in accordance with ANSI, and our regular sprockets also have S-tooth profiles.
